Professor Pappe, History is not fair. I, my parents and grandparents, lost our homeland of East Bengal in 1947, when India gained independence. That land of our forefathers became East Pakistan, then Bangladesh ( in 1971). Was this fair to me and the other Hindus kicked out? I lobby for Israel because its legitimacy is obvious to me. Its survival in a hostile neighborhood is precarious. It’s a friend of India, a liberal Western democracy and successful state. Shalom Israel! 🇮🇱 I look forward to reading your book. This behaviour is a natural part of party politics, but intentions are everything. I have to accept his intentions were good and he did the right thing for the labour party. Now he is at an election, one where the Labour party is fit for government again. I think he made it very clear in his answer that his intention was to save the labour party in the long term and that is exactly why I trust his intentions going forwards.

I love how he casually shot down the whole "straight white male alt-right adjacent" narrative. It's not accurate, and it's never been helpful. He responded very well to every biased thing she said. That part about "you do realize women are human, right?" was just so painfully tone deaf. I wonder why people see her as a feminist online? Why was George Galloway not part of the debate, he would have wiped the floor with the lot of them. Seven times Farage has stood for parliament and seven times he has failed, his ability to pop up at strategic moments is unmatched. On the point re: steel manufacturing and “exported emissions”, I’m no farage fan by any means but I strongly disagree that he is “flat out wrong” on that subject. The uk needs thousands of tonnes of steel every year, so the idea that it is preferable to import steel from elsewhere as a finished product rather than promoting the domestic production of this critical material (south wales being the last such site in the country) that employs hundreds (and indirectly thousands) of workers in the process is really (in my opinion) a black-and-white matter in favour of doing what we need to do to retain that industry. No?
